Importance of employee motivation
According
to Craig (2017), motivation is known as the factor that keeps the wheels of civilization
turning. As the author has stated “wheels of civilization turning’’ is known as
the operations or the productions carried forward in the industry being
undertaken properly and as a result the operations would be carried for the
success of the organizations, to this to happen the employee working need to
have the motive of succeeding the conducted operations/activities to achieve
the set targets.
According
to Dwight D.Eisenhower’s statement, Motivation is the art of getting people to
do what you want them to do because they want to do it (Achim, et al., 2013). It is challenging to get employee convinced
to achieve the targeted goals. It is stated as an art due to the challenge of
convincing each employee because each employee would have different interests
and goals, the employees would be motivated to work to achieve the
organizational targets only if their personal interests are being achieved,
this could be related to every industry employee. Even though this might not be
the same scenario in every other working environment.
According
to Achim, et al., (2013), motivation is
the set of states of the individual’s needs that require to be satisfied and
therefore pushes, incites, and causes the individual to perform a series of
actions in order to satisfy them. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the
success of analyzing the employee need and wants would give the owner the
success rate of the sales/services provided. A highly motivated employee would
give his/her 100% towards the profitability of the organization but a less
motivated employee would not do half as much as the highly motivated employee
would do, which why analyzing their personal targets, needs and wants is
essential. Specially in the tourism and hospitality industry the employee
motivation level affects in wide aspects because employee is the greatest
assets to organizations in this industry. Tourism and hospitality sector is a
service providing industry, services cannot be provided through machines and
other sources, the touch and the essence of human nature and the understanding
to a customer need and how to fulfil this would be only analyzed and understood
by a human being which to the organization it would be a employee working under
the organization, which is mainly why employees tend to be the biggest asset in
service providing industries as tourism and hospitality industry (Gabcanova, 2011).

I agree with your point of view. Motivation, according to Bartol and Martin (1998), is a potent tool for reinforcing behavior and triggering the desire to continue. In other words, motivation is an innate desire to make the miserable happy. It's also a process that begins with a physiological or psychological need and leads to a degree of performance that is goal-oriented.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Similarly, Today's Complex business environment, lack of motivation, lack of job satisfaction will influence employee turnover: motive and satisfied employees committed to achieving the organization's objectives and goals (Ibrar, Ibrar and Khan, 2015). This statement caters the more evidence to prove your argument further.
ReplyDeleteThe Latin root of motivation means" to move" and fundamentally, motivational psychologists study what moves people to act and why people think and do what they do (Weiner, 1992)
DeleteAgreed with you and according to Nitin N. et al. (2008) the organizational levers of motivation factors are good reward system and culture of that organization.
ReplyDeleteThe relationship between the extrinsic and intrinsic rewarding system on employee motivation on a leading apparel company in Sri Lanka (Jayawardena,2020)
DeleteAgreed with the argument you have made. Lack of motivation of employees may cause not only job dissatisfaction but higher turnover, absenteeism, low performance, low morale, low contribution to the team, less coordination, less orientation which has long term effected to business in the competitive market(Varma,2018). Achim et al(2013) also mentioned abut non-financial motivation and they describes that strategic importance of management process with well-known factors are resulting non-financial motivation of employees.
ReplyDeleteIt is the quality of the employee's workplace environment that most impacts on their level of motivation and subsequent performance, therefore the motivation of the employees is highly essential, no motivation, no performance, no productivity, the simple theory so the organization needs to work on it ( Chandrasekar,2011)
DeleteAgreed with your points Melan. According to Kanfer (1990) motivation is like gravity, we can’t see it or feel it. It’s a hypothetical concept. But we can observe the result afterward.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Locke,A motivation sequence and integrative framework is proposed that identifies key motivational concepts in chronological sequence , hence it is essential to work according to gain expected results. (Locke,1991)
DeleteAgreed with your points. Motivated employees are important assets to every organization who can create value for the organization by improving organizational performance (Kaur, 2013).
ReplyDeleteAgreed with the argument, Moreover, the most important factors for the emergence of motivation theories in business life is commencing surveys about how to maintain the workers’ motivation on their jobs as the modern management theories take effect contrary to the classical management theories. (Günaydın, 2007, p. 229-30).
ReplyDeleteAgreed, A fair pay scale is one that meets the needs of the employee, one that is consistent throughout the organization (Armache,2014)
DeleteFurthermore, I agree with your argument that one of the key motivators for employees to improve performance is financial rewards, but money is mostly utilised to meet individual requirements for workers in manufacturing organisations (Dobre, 2013).
ReplyDeleteEmployee motivation is more important for organization. According to Maslow, employees have five levels of needs (Maslow, 1943): physiological, safety, social, ego, and self-actualizing. Maslow argued that lower level needs are first satisfied before the next higher level need would motivate employees. Herzberg's work categorized motivation into two factors: motivators and hygienes (Herzberg, Mausner, & Snyderman, 1959). Motivator or intrinsic factors, such as achievement and recognition, produce job satisfaction whereas hygiene or extrinsic factors, such as pay and job security, produce job dissatisfaction. The interest in this theory peaked in the 1970s and early 1980s (Ambrose & Kulik, 1999).
ReplyDeleteAgreed with your comment. ‘High level of job satisfaction is directly related to positive behavior on the job, specifically to higher performance, low turnover and low absenteeism.’(Shalts & Shalts, 2016). Therefore in present competitive environment it is important for organizations to keep their employees motivated by offering both financial as well as non-financial benefits. Because employees who are highly motivated, will directly lead organization to achieve its goals in a smooth way.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Grant (2008), motivation results in instance employee performance and productivity and are more oriented towards autonomy and self-driven in contrast to less motivated employees. Further, motivated employees are highly engaged and involved in their work and jobs and are more willing to take responsibilities (Kuvaas & Dysvik, 2009)
ReplyDelete(Mutalib, 2019) also stated that, most organizations today understand the importance of having motivated employees as it drives them to do better at work and in the long-term, helps to improve the growth of organizations as well as achieve high performance.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Motivation is driven by emotional factors (Maslow, 1943). The four drive model on employee motivation developed by Nohria and Lawrence (2002) highlights the importance of four biological motivations that drives human nature.
ReplyDeleteI agreed what you mentioned above. Employee motivation is most important elements in the organization. If they need to achieve their goals, first must motivate their employees. It directly affects the future survival and prosperity of the organization. According to the Maslow's hierarchy theory and Herzberg's theory (Gawel, Joseph E. (1996) ) are affect to motivate the employee. Best hygiene factors and a humanistic psychologist can use to influence employees.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree with your point .in addition motivation is a critical aspect in ensuring that employees stay engaged and provide their best to their organizations (Branham, 2001). A high degree of motivation also leads to a reduced rate of employee turnover.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you Melan,
ReplyDeleteThe value of an organization's empowered workers can not be overestimated. Efficiency, commitment and satisfaction of employees are improving, resulting in increased productivity. Organizations can also see a decline in absenteeism and a greater sharing of knowledge contributing to the transfer of innovative ideas (Napolitano, 2016).
ReplyDeleteYes Agree Melan, As per Anand (2010) Motivation is an important stimulation which directs human behavior. No individual has same attitude or behavior, hence in midst of this diversity organization are supposed to frame practices which will be able to satisfy the group and not just an individual (Lussier & Achua, 2007).
