Introduction

As per international trade administration (2021), Sri Lanka has been referred to as the "Pearl of the Indian Ocean" and the Emerald Isle throughout its long and illustrious history. This comparatively small island packs a punch with its vast diversity of culture, natural beauty, and historic history, as it is home to eight outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It's no surprise that the country is becoming more popular as a tourist destination with 2.3 million visitors in 2018. However, Sri Lanka's path to renown has not been simple, as the country has been wracked by a nearly 26-year civil conflict. As per Yoong (n.d), tourism has long been the country's third-largest source of foreign currency. Due to the aftermath of the Easter Terror Attacks, Sri Lanka experienced over 1.9 million visitor arrivals in 2019, a 21% decrease from the previous year.
